Are you planning a trip to Vancouver in Canada? When describing Vancouver, you may hear a lot of “most”. It is one of the most liveable cities in the world, the most diverse in Canada, or the most densely populated in Canada. And all of that is true. These are all things that make Vancouver a must in Canada.

How Would We Describe Vancouver?
Vancouver is a charming mix of nature and city. The city urban planning known as “Vancouverism” creates a very peculiar mix of high rise tower, parks and commerce where you can experience different cultures. Vancouver’s proximity with nature is also another great asset of the city and something locals as well as visitors talk about a lot. Like any major city, Vancouver has its downside like the cost of living, homelessness, and unsafe neighborhoods. Nonetheless, it remains a great city to visit and as long as you know where you go, you will be fine!
What To Do In Vancouver?
Warning! Note that all prices here are in Canadian dollars and not US$.
1. Stanley Park
At Northern Latitude, we have a theory that we repeat a lot; A great city comes with a great park. Vancouver is no exception to the rule. Stanley Park is a 405-hectare park with pretty much everything you could expect from an urban park: playgrounds, trails, sport places, etc…. However, Stanley park has several little extras making it unique. This includes the seawall and walkway which began to be constructed in 1917, the Second Beach Pool or miniature train. Wandering and exploring this park is definitely worth it.

7. Vancouver Aquarium
Something fun about aquariums and zoos is that although they all share similarities, we always visit them all. The aquarium of Vancouver has not reinvented the wheel for sure, but yet there is still something wonderful about seeing those wild animals moving around and going about their life. This being said, Vancouver zoo is surely among the top activities in Vancouver. It features several exhibits with a range of animals, but it also has something that we found to be interesting; The Amazon Gallery. This exhibit focuses on some species found in the rainforest. However it is not about marine wildlife, but rather other kinds of species including Goeldi’s Monkey, a Green Anaconda and we love this last one, Linneaus's Two-Toed Sloth.
Price Range (Daily Admission): CA$39.95 – $55.20

8. Garibaldi & Joffre Lakes Provincial Parks
Going along with the green reputation of Vancouver, the city is surrounded by natural parks. Two of them are Garibaldi and Joffre Lakes. These two provincial parks are popular for their stunning scenery that include alpine lakes and mountains. Those are about 1 to 2H drive from Vancouver along the Sea to Sky highway (Highway 99).However, we may not recommend it for everyone. Indeed, as beautiful as these two parks may be, the lakes are pretty much only accessible through hiking trails that are NOT beginner friendly. If yet you feel comfortable, please take some time to read the safety rules and recommendations of the area.

Price: Free, although passes may be required depending on the season.
