Is San Francisco Worth Visiting?

Yes, San Francisco is among the best destinations in the American West. It features a great mix of scenery, activities of all kinds and location. It’s a place to visit at once.

Is San Francisco safe to visit?

Yes, overall San Francisco is a safe place to visit. As in many cities, it has its issues (drugs, violence, etc…), but those are mainly located within specific neighborhoods of the city. During our multiple visits, we never felt unsafe in the popular areas of the city. We do recommend extra carefulness at night though.

Do you need a car to visit San Francisco?

The answer to that question depends heavily on your traveling goals. If you want to stay within the city of San Francisco, then no you won’t need a car as the transit system is very efficient. If your plan is to get to the park around the city though, a car will be needed.

Where to stay in San Francisco?

The “best” place to visit during your trip will mostly be based on what you are looking for. If you’re looking for convenience, we would recommend staying in areas like the Fisherman’s Wharf, Union Square or North Beach. They both offer convenient access to the transit system and attractions.

For safety reasons, we would recommend avoiding the following neighborhoods:

  • Tenderloin

  • Civic Center

  • Some parts of South of Market

  • Financial District (at night)

How many days should I spend in San Francisco?

To visit San Francisco, we would recommend a minimum of 3 days. Based on our experience, you can definitely visit the city in one day, but you will be very limited in what you can, and won’t be able to fully enjoy the experience. For more details, here is a breakdown of what you may be able to visit based on your number of days in San Francisco.

1 Day:

Main sights like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Ferry Building and a little bit of dowtown.

3 Days:

Main attractions plus museums and parks like the Golden Gate Park or Muir Woods National Monument.

7+ Days:

You will be able to visit the main attractions, some museums and parks. You will also be able to visit the Bay Area, including towns like Napa, Santa Rosa or San Jose.

How is the weather in San Francisco?

San Francisco has a Mediterranean-type climate. Winters are wet and cool, summers dry and warm. There can be fog and wind throughout the year. Plan your clothes accordingly.

What is the best time to visit San Francisco?

The period going from August to October is generally a good time to visit San Francisco. Summers can be hot and foggy. Nonetheless, San Francisco is a year-round destination. Each period has its own pros and cons.
