The World Cup 2026, will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026. For the 23rd edition of this interplanetary competition, Canada, Mexico, and the United States will be the host countries. This is the first time in history that the World Cup 2026 will be held in three different host countries and will feature 48 countries instead of the usual 32 countries.


After defeating France (3-3, 4-2 on penalties) at the 2022 World Cup, Argentina will defend its title and attempt to become the third country in history to retain its crown in two consecutive editions.


The opening match will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The grand finale will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026 in New York.

The group draw took place on December 5, 2025 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

World Cup 2026 - Qualified Countries

The 2026 World Cup will see the participation of 48 countries. The qualified countries are:

 

Asia: Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Uzbekistan,

Africa: Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Moroco, Senegal, South Africa,Tunisia.

North and Central America, plus the Caribbean : Canada, Curaçao, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, USA.

Oceania: New-Zealand

World Cup 2026 - Format

The 48 qualified countries will be divided into 12 groups of 4.

 

The top two countries from each group and the eight best third-place countries from the groups will now progress to the round of 32.

​

From the round of 32, the match will be knockout match.

World Cup 2026 - Draw

The group draw took place on December 5, 2025 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The draw will commence at 12:00 local time (18:00CET).​ The draw pots were as follows:
