Yes, San Francisco is definitely worth visiting. The city has a lot to offer and we never got bored when visiting it. From parks, to museums passing by tours, there is always something to discover in San Francisco.

Is San Francisco safe to visit?

Yes, San Francisco is generally a safe place for visitors, and millions enjoy their visit to the city every year. Usual precautions apply; the government of San Francisco (see link in paragraph below) encourages visitors to keep their belongings secure and to not leave their valuable items in a parked vehicle.

Good recommendations are given in this official page of the San Francisco government. It shows how you can receive alerts during your visit, and how to call emergencies. As a foreigner, know that you can get an interpreter in your language. The page mentioned earlier explains how.

Where to stay in San Francisco?

The “best” place to stay is a subjective topic. During our own trip to San Francisco, we stayed in the Fisherman’s Wharf area and found it to be a good place. But there are many other good areas to stay in San Francisco. The official San Francisco tourism office’s website makes a great list of places to stay based on travelers interests.

For safety reasons, we would recommend avoiding the following neighborhoods:

  • Tenderloin

  • Civic Center

  • Some parts of South of Market

  • Financial District (at night)
